Review of the First Person by Peron Long

The First Person (Urban Renaissance)

FULL OF SURPRISES!

I purchased this book from the author because I read his other book "Livin Aint' Easy" and loved that one.

I loved the way this book was written.  The chapters are short and each chapter is dedicated to a certain character in the book.  That is one thing I really like about a book is when each character gets the chance to tell his or her point of view.

You really have to pay attention when you are reading this book.  There is a lot going on and the characters are really connected.  The book just flowed so well and it never got dull.

The Characters:
The first character you meet is T'Shobi Wells.  He is the minister of music at New Deliverance Church. While he was speaking with Pastor Reynolds, his (Pastor Reynolds) wife was checking him out. She is old enough to be T'Shobi's mother, but T'Shobi has a thing women that are older than him.  When you read this book you will see why and find out about his past.   He stayed with different foster families and then was adopted by a pastor and his wife, the Pratts.  Mrs. Pratt was a music teacher at the high school and she would teach him how to play the piano.  I think Mrs. Pratt really played a role in the way he turned out.

Next you meet Justine Reynolds, the pastor's wife.  She knows a secret about her husband's past, but he doesn't know that she knows and you will find out what that is when you read this book.

Then there is Tinisha Jackson.  Her mother sheltered her most of her life.  She wouldn't let her do hardly anything.  Her mother said: "As long as you got the Lord, baby, you will be just fine," she used to tell me as a little girl when I would have to turn down invites to slumber parties. (p.92).  She wanted to go to law school but her mom was against it.  She gets really strange as the book goes on.  Titi emerges and it makes you wonder what happened to Tinisha.

In Chapter  6 you meet Seth Reynolds, the pastor.  He has feelings for someone that he has never had in his life and you will be surprised to find out who it is.

This book was awesome and there wasn't anything about it that could have been done any better.  It was full of sex, lies, and unforgettable characters.  It really kept me guessing who was putting out the information until the end.
