If Your Girl Only Knew by Dwayne S. Joseph

If Your Girl Only Knew by Dwayne S. Joseph
Published September 1st 2006 by Urban Books (first published 2005)
Paperback, 288 pages

From Goodreads: It's been six years since David Cray and Jocelyn Alvarez laid eyes on each other. Their bitter breakup, caused by David's infidelity, left Jocelyn angry and David filled with regrets. But a chance meeting in Philadelphia spurs them to get back together, and it's soon obvious that the feelings they thought were dead and buried are as strong as ever. But there's a problem with this romantic reunion - two problems in fact. David is engaged to Janelle, and Jocelyn is married to Eric. And now, two people desperate to keep the love they've rediscovered will have to decide how much they're willing to give up to be together.

Wow that was a great book. It was so full of drama. You should see the book now that I am done. I have marked all of the parts I want to remember when doing a review and I have 40 spots marked. I can definately see the growth of the author since his earlier book.

First of all I have to say that I enjoy reading his Acknowledgments. He really shows his appreciation for everyone in his life his family, his readers and specific book clubs.

Each chapter in this book goes from person to person and what is going on in that person's life. It is interesting to hear the point of view of each of the characters. David was a writer and he was supposed to be working on his book, but he e-mailed Jocelyn since he had run into her not long before. He and Jocelyn were together 6 years prior, but he cheated on her, so they broke up. He is engaged now, but still has feelings for her. She is married too.

David and Jocelyn decided to meet and just see what happens. David's friend Marc agrees to cover for him so he can get away for the weekend. Meanwhile Jocelyn's husband Eric surprises her with candles and a romantic setting at home, and he told her he wants to start a family. She gets upset at him because they have both been distant and now all of a sudden he decides he wants to start a family. They met up at the hotel and they kissed. (P79) "I couldn't remember the last time a kiss evoked such hunger within me. My skin tingled with excitement. I wanted him." They ended up meeting with each other quite often.

Janelle and David were so distant with each other, that he didn't even notice the signs that she was pregnant. One day he left his laptop and forgot to shut it down.. I won't give any more of the story, but both couples go through a lot to find out where in life they really want to be or not be.

There was a very surprising event towards the end that almost made me cry. These people all went through so much. There was no way that David could have gone on not knowing what might have been if he didn't meet up with Jocelyn. He could have just kept going on with his life the way it was, but he would never have truly been happy--same with Jocelyn. They didn't end up maybe where they thought they would be, but they found out where they needed to be.

On page 96 the author says "She had the kind of figure men loved--large breasts, wide hips, and a rear end to sit on". (I wish this is what men really loved!)

If you haven't read any books by Dwayne S. Joseph yet, then you should. He is an amazing author. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars!
